WHERE DO FRECKLES COME FROM EXACTLY Freckles are passed down from parents. If your parents have freckles then you have a high chance of getting them during Summer. The gene, MC1R and the environment controls the size, colour and the pattern. The sun is capable of changing the freckles. The gene MC1R is associated with causing red hair and freckles. The MC1R lies around the melanocytes on the skin and helps set a balance of pigments in the skin. If one parent has freckles and the other doesn't then you may have a less chance of such prominent freckles compared to someone who's parents both have freckles. 80% of redheads have MC1R. From my research there seems to be some sort of debate about who brought the red hair and freckles to Ireland, the Celts or the Viking? Professor Donna Heddie says that the Vikings were mostly red instead of blond, in terms of hair colour.  She mentioned that if you look where red heads came from it's almost mapped to the Vik

THE LEGEND BEHIND FRECKLES The old legend has it that the Gods saw the sons of Adam building a tower in Babylon, and they weren't happy about this, so they gave people different languages in the hope to confuse them and also to make the Sons of Adam to forget who they were. The Gaels were from an island up north, on the Atlantic (Ireland), they were given the language Gaeilge. The Gods were aware that the Gaels were unable to see the stars and heavens from their land, so they sprayed the Gaels with dust, so they wouldn't forget about the stars and heavens. The dust was freckles called 'bricinĂ' which is Irish for little stars, the freckles are a map of the universe so that the Gaels would remember the stars and heavens even if they couldn't see them from their home. According to an Ancient Roman naturalist, Pliny the Elder said that if you were a woman with 'lenticula' which means freckles on the skin. It looked as if you are unclean and impure. If

THE TYPES OF FRECKLES There are two types of freckles. They are called, ephelides and the other lentignes. The crucial difference between them is that, ephelides are your normal freckle they appear around Summer time and once Winter comes round they fade. They are usually around the same size of the head of a nail. Where as, lentignes are bigger and much darker and they also don't fade in Winter. Lentignes arise when the skin is also exposed to the sun, they also have more irregular sides to them. They increase in number as you get older. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Smiling_model_with_freckles.jpg Malignant melanoma is skin cancer, it is of a result of skin being over exposed to sunlight and the UV rays have damaged skin cells and therefore cancer forms, a sign of skin cancer is an odd looking, dark spot on the skin with irregular sides. It is so crucial to be able to tell the difference between a malignant melanoma and your normal freckles. If the freckle i
OIRIGIN OF FRECKLES Freckles are usually found on people with medium to fair-light skin. They are basically made when the UV rays of the sun make contact with the skin. People with more even pigmentation in the skin are known to us as t anned. Other people like myself have more flakier pigmentation in the skin which are the freckles because the melanin clumps together rather than evenly. During Summer months people with freckles may notice that their freckles have gotten bigger, bolder in colour or more widespread.  Freckles normally don't have any texture if they do well that's most likely a mole. Some coloured people can get freckles as well. Any exposure of skin to the skin, will result in some sort of colour. Foreigners are forever amazed by the Irish people's golden spots. A lot of people have freckles around the world, most likely they are of Irish descent.
